Our Hummingbird

You were more than just our friend,
More than a coworker 'til the end.
You were our sister, heart and soul,

 

A steady light, a calming role.

You loved your Jack — oh, how it showed,
Each tear you shed, a love retold.
He was your compass, your favorite view,
No one else quite understood you like he knew.

 

You kept things neat, you kept things right,
“Dummy proof” and “squared away” each night.
And Lord help us if we left a mess,
You’d give that look — no need to guess!

"It's not wrong," you'd say, with a sly little grin,
"It’s just not how I would’ve done it, friend.”

 

We’d laugh, and nod, and fix it your way,
Because truth be told — you made our day.

Hummingbirds danced outside your door,
You loved them wildly, and still wanted more.

 

The beach, the mountains — peace in the breeze,
You found your joy in simple things with ease.

You were the glue, the wise, the strong,
The one who kept us going all along.

 

And even now, as you begin to fly,
We feel you here — you’ll never truly die.

We picture you now with Jack by your side,

Hand in hand, hearts open wide.

Heaven got cleaner the second you came,
And we’re sure the angels know your name.

So fly, sweet hummingbird, light and free,
Carry our love to eternity.

We’ll keep things tidy, squared away,
And hear your voice with us each day.
